GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of Sept. 19, 2009 Meeting 

 

Pres. Vinnie Corbo called the meeting to order and led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo led the group in prayer. Pres. Corbo called for a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen. 

 

Steve Toby motioned to accept Aug. 15th minutes. Vincent Dino seconded it. The motion passed. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case). Club elections are next month. 

 

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Aug. 15th meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 26; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $354; 50/50 income, $22; Mardy De Santo donated his 50/50 winnings $23 to Project Child Save, and Dues, $140. Expense was postage, $67.20. The balance is $2614. Dues are due now. 

 

Pres. Corbo thanked the members who attended the funeral for Sal Sportelli and proceeded in mentioning each attendee.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Pres. Vinnie Corbo discussed G.O.I.I.A. T-Shirts, pointing out that he assigned members to help with them but little was done so he took on the task. Fifty-three dollars were made on the sale.

 

Brother Dino, who painted Francis Coppola’s house, thanked the club for its donation to the ill girl. He explained that the girl was near death but at the moment is improving. He added that the family thanks the club. 

 

OLD BUSINESS: Pres. Corbo requested for volunteers to man the club’s booth at the St. Gennero Festival Booth next weekend. He again explained that it costs $5 to get in during the following three days, Sept. 25-27. Corbo stressed that every one would have to pay $5 even though he is volunteering to man our booth.

 

ANNOUNCEMENT: Corbo announced that Brother Joey Sorice will be the daytime host at the Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sorice is also host of the comedy "The Meatballs: at the Jon Lovitz comedy club at Universal City Walk from Oct. 4-11 at 6 p.m. He asked members to attend. He said it’s very funny. 

 

AUCTION: John Murgo auctioned off a can of olive oil from Italy, which was donated by Brother Michael Di Leo, a member from Arizona. The auctioned netted $70, which was donated to the club.

 

SPEAKER PROGRAM: Dr. Joe, Brother Joseph Turcillo, discussed the seriousness of the H1N1 flu shot. The topic made for a very interesting talk. Much was learned by the membership.

 

Joe Forte donated his 50/50 winnings of $40 back to the club.

 

Pres. Corbo adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Oct. 3rd at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Oct. 17th meeting. Recorded by Jimmy D’Arrigo. Submitted by Secretary Bill Poleri.

Brothers – Rocky and Lou and Sister – Rose

Five Grandchildren – Three Great Grandchildren

And many nieces and nephews.
