GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of September 17, 2005 Meeting

Pres. Vinny Raso called the meeting to order and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially Frank Valentino and Mickey Grasso, and those in the services.

Leo Matranga motioned to accept the Aug 20th minutes. Jimmy D’Arrigo seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).

Sec. Bill Poleri announced he wouldn’t be able to make the next meeting and D’Arrigo agreed to fill in for the secretary.

Poleri also asked if any members have the phone number of the radio program House of Italy. He explained that while he was back east he checked his phone messages, of which one invited the club to be presented at the program and when the secretary tried to rerun the message a second time to get the phone number, he erased it by mistake. If he could get the phone number, Poleri said, he would pass it on to Pres. Raso, who could then make a pitch for the club on the air.

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial reports. Incomes from the Aug. 20th meeting were Luncheon, $156 and non-eaters, $12. Luncheon expenses were $300, and gratuities, $15 for a loss of $147. Other incomes were 50/50, $12, and Matranga’s 50/50 winning, $13. Other expenses for Aug. 13th senior shut-ins luncheons were for cakes and souvenirs for a total of $47.06. The balance is $1613.51. Duke Sella motioned to accept. Vinnie Oliver seconded it. The motion carried. di Milo pointed out that the balance is the lowest it has been in a very long time.

The treasurer reminded members that the picnic is Oct. 23 at Crestwood Hill Park, Brentwood, from noon to 4 p.m. and the cost is $5 for adults and free for children under 16.

NEW BUSINESS: Sec. Poleri called for nominations of officers. Pasty Perriello nominated the present board of officers. Ronnie La Barbera seconded the slate. There were no other nominations. Sella motioned to reelect the present board by acclamation. Vito Giovannelli seconded it. The motion passed. Officers are: Pres. Vinny Raso, Vice-Pres. Steve Loyacano, Sec. Bill Poleri, Treas. Tony di Milo, Board Member-at-Large Leo Matranga and Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer.

Treas. di Milo announced that the Italian Feast of San Gennaro would be held at The Grove/Farmers Market, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles on Sept. 22-25. Pres. Raso suggested going as a group. He said he and Karen (his wife) will donate $100 to the feast in the club’s name and asked others to join them in attending. He suggested that they meet at the Villa Sorrento parking lot. He said Karen could put out an email to contact others that may be interested in going.
