GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

 

Minutes of September 16, 2006 Meeting

 

 

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, following which Raso led the members in a prayer. He thanked “all for being what we are.” A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers and those that are ill, especially for Chicky Russo who was on dialysis three days this past week..

 

Vito Giovannelli motioned to accept the Aug. 19th minutes. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web site is now: www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

 

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Aug. 19th meeting. Members attending luncheon were 25; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $350; Comp luncheon for Norm Panto, $14; 50/50 income, $20; and Vinnie’s 50/50 winning donation, $21; MOTY Dinner Reservations, $375; Christmas Party Donations: Anonymous, $150; Ronnie LaBarbera, $50; Frank Monteleone, $50, and Giovanni LaMarca, $50. Expenses were Picnic Res. $78; MOTY Medal, $349.75; Seniors Gifts at Luncheon, $91.25; Senior Luncheon Caterer, $585; St. Charles Church Donation (Sr. Luncheon was held at its Social Center) $50. Total cost of Senior Shut Ins Luncheon, $518.25. Other expense was postage, $63. The balance is $3256.06. Jimmy D’Arrigo motioned to accept. Vinny Oliver seconded it. The motion carried.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Chairman of the Seniors Luncheon Mike Policare thanked all the volunteers, especially Leo Matranga, for the work they did to make the event a big success. He said all had a good time and he also thanked the nursing home for their cooperation.

 

Mike An’gileo thanked all the members who came to the viewing and funeral services of his father Boris Vanoff. A dear friend of GOIIA Mr. Vanoff died on Aug. 12. An’gileo said that his father loved us all and thanked all for the amazing support they had given and for sharing his father’s spirit.

 

di Milo said reservations for the Man-of-the-Year dinner, which will be held tomorrow at Maggiano’s in The Promenade, 6100 Topanga Canyon, Woodland Hills, were going well.

 

Sec. Bill Poleri reported that we have a booth at San Gennaro Festival but he needs volunteers to man it. The festival will be held on Sept. 21-24 at Hollywood and Hawthorne, one block south of Hollywood and Highland, Hollywood. Pres. Vinny Raso said that he would be there Friday thru Sunday. Raso asked any volunteers to see him after the meeting. “We need new blood and have to enhance our membership,” he said. Sec. Poleri said we also need a member to meet with the Festival officials to submit our application on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Vinnie Corbo volunteered to do that.

 

NEW BUSINESS: None.

 

Richard Muccillo donated his $20 50/50 winnings back to the club.

 

Pres. Vinny Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 7th at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Oct. 21st meeting.
