Minutes of October 20, 2007 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order and Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo then led the group in the prayer. Pres. Raso called upon past Pres. Joe Picarella to lead the group in a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.
Greg Holzer motioned to accept the Oct. 6th minutes. Vito Giovannelli seconded it. The motion passed. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. di Milo read the financial report for the Oct. 6th meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 28; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $392; 50/50 income, $52; Anthony Santoro’s 50/50 winning, $53; Donations, Bill Poleri, $25 and Vinnie Corbo, $200; Picnic Reservations, $42; Mini Pins, $6; San Gennaro Donations, $504, and Dues, $840. Expenses: Postage, $104; State Corp. Fee, $20, and San Gennaro Expenses (Printing of Brochures, Banner, etc.) $1385.49. The balance is $2114. Michael An’gileo motioned to accept. Michael Costantino seconded it. The motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS: Joe Turcillo motioned that the club donate $100 each to the City of Hope and a group of Mexican Nuns, whom he treated at a free clinic. The doctor said the club is an international organization and goes on record as such. Victor Russo seconded the motion saying that the doctor’s word is good enough for him. Pres. Raso also spoke in favor of the motion saying that he is a cancer survivor and we need to destroy this disease. He added that he lost a twin brother and two cousins to cancer. Vice Pres. Corbo issued a word of caution saying that these donations are great but we have only so much in our account. We have to set a standard as to what amount we give to individual causes and the number of charities. He emphasized that we need help to raise more money for charitable giving. Dr. Turcillo agreed saying that we need to make more money to give more money. The motion was called and passed.
OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo announced the annual picnic will be on Oct. 28 from noon to 4 p.m. at Crestwood Hill Park, Brentwood. Seven dollars for adults and children under 16 free. Bring your own beverage but no alcohol is allowed. The directions are on the postcards and the minutes.
Dr. Joe Turcillo gave a short-talk on respiratory diseases.
Pres. Raso thanked Norman Panto for supplying music with his accordion playing.
The president thanked Past Pres. Picarella for joining us today and asked him to say a few words. Picarella made a short speech off the record about how nice it is to be here.
$35 dues is due NOW.
Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Nov. 17th at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Dec. 1st meeting.
