GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of October 18, 2008 Meeting

Pres. Vinny Raso called the meeting to order and led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo then led the group in the prayer. Pres. Raso then led the group in a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen, and Richard, our bartender, who is being treated for cancer.

Rocco Telese motioned to accept the minutes for the Oct.4th meeting. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The motion passed. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

Sec. Bill Poleri read a note from Tonia Caruso, widow of one of our most famous members, Anthony Caruso. It read as follows: “It makes me very happy to provide a little “$$” so that 6 members can participate in our picnic who might not be able to attend otherwise! No thanks necessary, it’s my enjoyment. Love to all. Tonia.” Enclosed was a check for $30.

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Oct.4th meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 22; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $308. Incomes were 50/50, $30, and Dues, $665. The balance is $2718.49. La Barbera motioned to accept. D’Arrigo seconded it. The motion passed.

Treas. di Milo urged all who are going, to sign up for the picnic, which is set for Oct. 26. Vito Giovannelli, who is catering the event, says he needs to know how many are coming so he can order the food.

OLD BUSINESS Sec. Poleri announced that the election committee consisting of Al Miller, Victor Russo and Anthony Santoro, has completed the counting of the ballots. He thanked them for the fine job they did and asked for a big hand, which they received. He then called Miller up to read the results, which are as follows:

The now past president, Vinny Raso, called up the newly elected officers. Veep Murgo asked for a big hand for Raso, which he received.

Pres. Corbo also praised Raso for the work he did during his reign and also asked for a big hand for the out-going president, which he received. Corbo praised the members for the great turnout. He pointed out that nearly all of the members come from other parts of this country, like our ancestors who came from different parts of Italy to this country and through their culture they contribute greatly in making America great. He feels that we as a group can also contribute to the community. He added that he has big ideas for the club.

NEW BUSINESS: Raso announced that money is being raised for the children’s party with the DVD’s. He said that the latest one, “Cooking and Curses, II,” would be shown. The DVD was very funny and entertaining.

Pres Corbo adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Nov. 1st at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Nov. 15th meeting. Submitted by Secretary Bill Poleri.
