GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of October 18, 2003 Meeting
President Joe Picarella called the meeting to order and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased, ailing brothers and those in the services. Pres. Picarella then gave a prayer of thanks.
Duke Sella motioned to accept the minutes for Oct. 4. Larry Mascari seconded it. The motion carried. The web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report. Incomes from Oct. 4th meeting were: Luncheon, $312, and non-eaters, $10 for a total of $322. Luncheon expenses were $300 and gratuities, $5 for a gain of $17. Other incomes were: Picnic, $225; 50/50 winnings, $28; Auction, $10, and Dues, $450. Picnic expenses were: Food, (Villa Sorrento), $330, and (Ralph’s), 59.61; Film and Tags, $20.74, and Non-Food Supplies, $32.51. Balance is $3942.95. Joe Buondelmonte motioned to accept. Vito Giovannelli seconded it. The motion carried.
The treasurer reported that there were 44 paid members and guests, one contribution of $5, four non-paying guests, seven children and nine no shows at the picnic.
Sec. Poleri and Treas. di Milo were amiss in not thanking those who contributed with time and energy in making the picnic a big success. Big hand goes to Pres. Joe Picarella, Joe and Mike Buondelmonte, Vito Giovannelli, Charlie Gallo, Frank Foti, di Milo and Poleri.
di Milo announced that the Handicapped Children’s Christmas Party is being planned.
He reminded members that the $35 dues are due.
OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo reported that today attendance was the lowest ever, 17 members. He asked for reasons why. Several members mentioned the USC-Notre Dame game was on; others thought that traffic tie up due to an accident, and Pres. Picarella and others felt it was mainly the fact that we had our picnic last week. Leo Matranga thought the best way to find out why the absented members weren’t here today is to ask them at the next meeting. That was the end of the discussion.
Picarella adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the Villa Sorrento, followed by the November 15th meeting.
