Minutes of October 1, 2005 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially Frank Valentino and Mickey Grasso, and those in the services.
Ronnie La Barbera motioned to accept the Sept. 17th minutes. John Murgo seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial reports, which was accepted by the membership. Details of it will be in a future minutes.
He reminded the membership that the $35 dues for 2006 are due Oct. 15.
The treasurer advised members who are planning to attend the picnic on Oct. 23 at Crestwood Hill Park, Brentwood, from noon to 4 p.m. to call him. The cost is $5 for adults and free for children under 16.
OLD BUSINESS: A long discussion followed after Treas. di Milo reported that continued low attendance at the meetings are hurting the club’s finances. Many suggestions were thrown out as ways to improve membership but nothing positive came out of the discussion.
Pres. Raso announced his attendance along with a few club members at the Italian Feast of San Gennaro. He talked about the possibilities of having our own booth next year. La Barbera suggested the club investigate going half on the expense with the Sons of Italy. Vito Giovannelli was appointed to get particulars on the cost and report back. The president also reported on the donation made at the feast, which was held at The Grove/Farmers Market, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles on Sept. 22-25. He said that Bill Poleri donated $10 and he kicked in $60. Leo Matranga wanted an explanation for the donations and added that he would have agreed to donate $20 if asked.
NEW BUSINESS: Mike Policare suggested that anyone over 90 years of age be made a life member of G.O.I.I.A. Murgo put it in a motion and La Barera seconded it. The motion passed. To clarify this motion a second one was made by Murgo which stipulates that anyone over 90 be in the club a minimum of five years in good standing. La Barera seconded it, which passed unanimously.
ANNOUNCEMENT – Jimmy D’Arrigo announced that he received a flyer from L’Iato American advertising the annual dinner and dance fund at Casa Italiani on Oct. 30. The cost is $30. Salvatore
Mark Tortorici, a guest, donated his $28 50/50 winnings to the club.
Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 15th at Villa Sorrento followed by the Nov. 5th meeting.
