GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

 

Minutes of November 2, 2002 Meeting

 

 

President Joe Picarella called the meeting to order and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. This was followed by a moment of silence for our other deceased and ailing brothers.

 

Duke Sella motioned to accept the minutes for Oct 19. Vinny Oliver seconded it It carried. Sec. Bill Poleri announced that there are only two more meetings before the holiday hiatus, Nov. 16 and Dec. 7, with the handicapped Childrens Christmas Party on Dec. 14. The first meeting of next year is Jan. 18.

 

Treasurer di Milo read the financial report. Incomes from October 19th meeting were: Luncheon, $312, and non-eaters, $10 for a total of $322. Luncheon expenses were $311 and gratuities, $10 for a gain of $1. Other incomes were Dues, $250, and50/50, $25. Jimmy DArrigo motioned to accept. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The motion carried.

 

di Milo introduced the new owner of Villa Sorrenta, Antonio Tohno and his manager, Franca Tirotta, explaining that escrow has been closed.

 

The treasurer also reminded all that the $25 yearly dues are due now.

 

OLD BUSINESS: di Milo announced that the gifts the club is buying for the girls, Caroline Davis and Rachel Paciolla, former owners of Villa Sorrento, will be a plaque for each with G.O.I.I.A. logo on it and signed by all the members. The plaques will be designed by Roger Pisarra, who also designed our logo, which is our pins.

 

The planned memorial plaque, which will have brass nameplates of deceased members on it, will be purchased instead of having a member make it, the treasurer said. The nameplates will cost $6 or $7 each.

 

di milo also announced Vinny R.aso still has some flag pins and is selling them for $50 with the proceeds going to the club.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Pisarra took a count of who wanted to buy good quality shirts with our logo on therm Approximately 25 members where interested with 10 being interested in more than one shirt He will have a category and shirt sample at a future meeting and pointed out a few shirts quality being worn by some members. He also suggested that the club buy a bunch of shirts, so there will be extra shirts for new members. Pres. Picarella said that the club will pass out a short questionnaire asking for the name, size, color and quantity to those who desire shifts.

 

ANNOUNCEMENT: Pres. Picarella announced that in lieu of mailing Christmas cards, he will treat each attending member with lunch at the Dec. 7 meeting.

 

Norman Nunzio Panto entertained the members with his renditions of Italian music on his accordion. He was given a big ovation.

 

President Picarella adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 at the Villa Sorrento, followed by the December 7th meeting.
