GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of November 18, 2006 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo led the group in prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.
D’Arrigo motioned to accept the Nov.4th minutes. Vinny Oliver seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case). Sec. Bill Poleri reminded everyone that there is only one more meeting this year and that is, Dec. 2. On Dec. 16th the club will hold its annual Christmas Party for Handicapped Children. The first meeting of 2007 is Jan. 6.
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Nov. 4th meeting. Members attending luncheon were 26; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $364; 50/50 income, $22; Donations to the Picnic - Leo Matranga, $5 and Frank Monteleone, $20, and Dues, $175. Expense is Postage, $54. The balance is $3486.62. Ronnie La Barbera motioned to accept. Geoff Capco seconded it. The motion carried.
Treas. di Milo reminded all that the $35 dues are due now.
John Murgo asked what the rules are for paying the dues. Poleri explained that the dues are due in October. Members who are in arrears by Dec. 1 cannot attend a meeting until the dues are paid. If they don’t pay by first meeting in January, which is on Jan. 6th, they will be dropped from the club until the dues are paid.
NEW BUSINESS: Sec. Poleri called upon Vice Pres. Vinnie Corbo to discuss an idea that Lee Pappas came up with and has spoken to Corbo about it. Corbo said that Pappas found a web site link where the club can donate needed items to our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan and thought that the club could donate items as a group. Corbo said that his wife, Jackie, who operates a cosmetic business, would donate shampoo and other toiletries. Poleri said that he has a lot of books he would donate. The members voiced an interest but no action was taken.
OLD BUSINESS: Corbo also reported that he has made a copy of John Antonucci’s copy of one of Al Hirshfield’s cartoons featuring It-Am performers. Corbo said he would email a copy to any one who asked.
Pres. Vinny Raso then adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 2nd at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Jan. 6th meeting.
