GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of May 5, 2007 Meeting
Pres. Vinny Raso called the meeting to order and led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo then led the group in the prayer. Pres. Raso called for a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.
Duke Sella motioned to accept the Apr. 21st minutes. D’Arrigo seconded it. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the April 21st meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 15; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $210; 50/50 income, $26; Carmine Marinelli’s 50/50 winning donation, $25; Small Pins, $20, and Dues, $35. Expense was Postage, $26.40. The balance is $3233.81. Joey Herrington motioned to accept. Pasta Jardula seconded it. The motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS: Pres. Raso reminded members of the upcoming events including the Man-of-the-Year Dinner, the luncheon for Senior Shut-Ins, the annual picnic and the Children’s Christmas Party. He said that his wife Karen and himself will entertain at these events.
Treas. di Milo announced that the picnic ground in Brentwood is only available on a first come first serve since the park is under going renovation. He mentioned a park in the Palisades that might be available. John Murgo said we should have a park where we can make reservations and suggested looking for a park close by. Several parks were suggested in Studio City, Woodland Hills and elsewhere in the Valley.
NEW BUSINESS: Herrington asked about getting T-shirts. Roger Pisarra who designed and ordered the previous shirts is living in Brazil. Murgo asked about the whereabouts of the decal pattern to sew the logo on the shirts. No one had an answer and no one has Pisarra’s Brazil address. Jeff Capco suggested having Pasta Jardula look into it since he had special shirts made for the festival. Jardula motioned to have Vinnie Corbo make three sample T-shirts. Herrington second it. Sec. Poleri amended the motion to read that the board must approve the best design. Corbo accepted the task. The motion passed. Capco and Herrington then brought up different kinds of shirt material. It was suggested that the members could pick their own material. Ronnie LaBarbera said he had a friend who is in the T-shirt business. Pres. Raso suggested he bring his friend to a meeting.
HEALTH NOTE: Brother Dr. Joe Turcillo warned about getting sick from unwashed fruits and vegetables. He urged washing them very thoroughly.
Michael An’gileo’s nephew Vincent donated his $12 of his $25 50/50 winnings back to the club.
Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be May 19th at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the June 2nd meeting.
