GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of July 19, 2008 Meeting

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order and Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo then led the group in the prayer. Pres. Raso then led the group in a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.

Greg motioned to accept the June 21st minutes. Vinny Oliver seconded it. The motion passed. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the June 21st meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 17; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $238. Incomes were 50/50, $22; Dues, $17, and $182 collected from members at Seniors Luncheon. Expenses for the Seniors Luncheon to date: $182 for gifts. The caterer’s bill hasn’t been submitted yet. The balance is $3395.29. Holzer motioned to accept. Oliver seconded it. The motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS: Vice President Vinnie Corbo announced that the Feast of San Gennero will be held on Sept. 26, 27 and 28 at Highland and Hollywood. Parking will be available at Kodak Theater Lot. The first four hours are free. He said that the club needs volunteers to man G.O.I.I.A.’s booth, which he arranged through festival officials. The cost to the club would be $100 donation to the San Gennero Festival. John Murgo motioned to raise the donation to $200. D’Arrigo seconded it. The motion passed.

Veep Corbo empathized the need for volunteers to report to him the time which they can man the booth. He stressed the need for this so all the volunteers don’t show at once.

He also explained that anyone who donated to the club would get a free DVD and/or a gold, silver or bronze plaque depending on the amount of the donation. For further details check the web site.

Treas. di Milo announced that the annual picnic would be on Oct. 26 at Crestwood Hill Park, Brentwood.

NEW BUSINESS: Veep Corbo asked if any of the older members have pictures of the club’s events prior to 2004 to loan them to him so he can put them on the web site. The pictures will be returned upon transferring them to G.O.I.I.A.’s site.

OBSERVANCES: The members wished fellow member, Dr. Joseph Turcillo, a happy birthday.

The membership also welcomed back member Nick Oliver who recently returned from a European trip to London, Austria and Greece.

Pres Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Aug. 2nd at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Aug. 16th meeting.

Recorded by Jimmy D’Arrigo.
