GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of July 15, 2006 Meeting

Pres. Vinny Raso called the meeting to order and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers and those that are ill.

Pres. Raso welcomed the members to the Vitello’s Restaurant for G.O.I.I.A.’s first meeting there.

Larry Mascari motioned to accept the June 17th minutes. Vinny Oliver seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web site is now: www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

Treas. di Milo read the financial report for the June 17th meeting. Incomes from the Luncheon were $264 and non-eaters, $12 for a total of $276. Luncheon expenses were $300 and gratuity, $24 for a loss of $24. Other income was 50/50, $38. Expenses were Italo-Americano, $40, and Meeting with Vitello’s, $40.64. The balance is $2496.56. Steve Lord motioned to accept. Mike Ardizone seconded the motion. The motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo reported that this year’s Man-of-the-Year dinner would be held on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Maggiano’s in The Promenade, 6100 Topanga Canyon, Woodhills, next to Macy’s. The phone number is (818) 887-3777. The treasurer said we need 50 people to attend, so he needs an idea of how many will show up. The dinner will be served family style. We will have a private room and it will run from noon to 4 p.m. di Milo felt that he may call upon some members to donate to it since this year we are inviting the widows of deceased members.

Pres. Raso reported that he and his wife, Karen, represented the Italian-Americans at the Channel Islands’ Fourth of July parade in Port Hueneme. Their effort earned them a ribbon for being the greatest.

NEW BUSINESS: The Feast of San Gennaro will be held on Sept. 21-24 at Hollywood and Hawthorne, one block south of Hollywood and Highland, in Hollywood. Frank Lonardo asked if we were going to have a booth at the feast. Vito Giovannelli said he checked into it last year. Sec. Poleri asked Lonardo and Giovannelli to check into the club having a booth or sharing a booth with another organization. They said they would.

Vince Corbo donated his $40 50/50 winnings back to the club.

Sec. Poleri asked what the membership thought of having the meeting at Vitello’s? The restaurant received thumbs up from all.

Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 5th at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Aug. 19th meeting.
