GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

 

Minutes of January 6, 2007 Meeting

 

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplin Jimmy D’Arrigo led the group in prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.

 

No motion was made to accept the Dec. 2nd minutes. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

 

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Dec. 2nd meeting. Members attending luncheon were 17; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $238; 50/50 income, $25; Donations to the Children’s Party – Vinnie Corbo, $150; Vito Giavannelli, $15; John Murgo, $15; Rocco Passanante, $10; Bill Poleri, $25; Sal Sportelli, $20; Rocco Telese, $15, and Anonymous, $50; and Dues, $70. Expenses were: Postage, $48; Christmas Party, Toys, $371.38; Parking, $8; Food, $85.78; Film, $87.57; Cash to Indigent Families, $200, and Tips, $60. Total cost for Party was $1312.72. Total donations were $450. Club cost was $862.72. Account balance is $2796.90. No motion was made to accept the financial report.

 

NEW BUSINESS: A lengthy discussion followed at the suggestion of having a dinner at Casa de Pizza of all members of the Grandsons and their wives, dates and guests. Giavannelli, proprietor of Casa de Pizza, claimed he would need about 40 people to make this possible.

 

Giavannelli plans to hold the event in the Frank Sinatra room a day the restaurant is normally closed which is a Monday. So the restaurant will be opened to our members only.

 

Dr. Joe Turcillo suggested naming it Frank Sinatra Night. A show of hands was registered as to attendance. A total of 12 were counted. A great deal more needs to be addressed such as price, date, time, menu, etc.

 

Dr. Turcillo has invited all club members to his Malibu home for the celebration of St. Joseph’s Day.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo announced that as of today 24 members are in arrears with their dues.

 

Ahead With Horses presented a plaque to the club in appreciation for its Christmas Party for Disabled Children. Vice Pres. Vinnie Carbo received the plaque and said he will hang it in a special place reserved for awards.

 

Dr. Turcillo held a question and answer period related to health, medicine, doctors and etc.

 

Giavannelli donated his $30 50/50 winnings back to the club.

 

Pres. Vinny Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 20th at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Feb. 3rd meeting.
