GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of February 5, 2005 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and those in the services. Afterward Pres. Raso toasted our deceased brothers, especially Sal Pacino who died recently.
Prior to the meeting, Tucker Brown, a former member who is planning to rejoin now that he is back in the area, announced that ABC, CBS and NBC need movie people. They are holding tryouts today until 4 p.m. at the Sportsman’s Lodge, Studio City for senior citizens to work in nearly every phrase of the business.
Duke Sella motioned to accept the minutes for Dec. 4. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. di Milo read the financial report. The treasurer reported that Sal Pacino’s funeral wreath cost $271. The club’s maximum allowance for flowers and fruit baskets for hospitalized members and funeral wreaths for deceased brothers is $50. He announced that Gary Palmquist Cannella and John Occhiuto each donated $100 toward the Pacino wreath and di Milo made up the difference. Pres. Raso asked for a big hand for the donors, which they received. di Milo added that anyone who would like to make a donation in memory of Sal Pacino make it to the American Heart Association.
The treasurer also explained that some members donate money to a fund to help out other members who are in need but the donors don’t want to be known. Any recipient of funds can’t ask who donated the money. Bernardo Collura asked how one might give to the fund. You see the treasurer, di Milo replied.
The treasurer reminded all that the $35 DUES ARE NOW DUE and the dues go from October to October, not the last month a member paid them. Make Your Check Payable to G.O.I.I.A.
NEW BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo reminded members that the Man-of-the-Year dinner is coming up. Since there were complaints about the food at the last dinner, di Milo asked how many wanted to go to Charlie G’s again. There were about six hands for Charlie G’s. He then asked how many against Charlie G’s. There were now about seven or eight hands up. How many could care less was the third question. Now about 15 hands popped up. Collura suggested that the committee decide. That’s how it was left.
OLD BUSINESS: Pres. Raso called upon Vice Pres. Loyacano to introduce his song he wrote about G.O.I.I.A. The club’s choir made a CD under the direction of Loyacano, who earlier passed out copies of the lyrics. The quartet didn’t sound too bad considering the fact that the CD wasn’t that great. G.O.I.I.A. vocal group includes Chicky Russo, Pres. Raso, Treas. di Milo and Leo Matranga, member of the board.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Treas. di Milo announced a member, Ricci D’Argenzio, has opened up the D’Argenzio Winery of Sonoma County in Burbank at 1204 W. Burbank Blvd. Besides selling premium wines, the winery customizes labels with your business or personal name. A wine tasting room is under construction and will open mid March. Their telephone is (818) 846-VINO (8466).
Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 19th at the Villa Sorrento, followed by the Mar. 5th meeting.
