GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of February 3, 2007 Meeting
Pres. Vinny Raso called the meeting to order and led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo led the group in prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially for Chicky Russo, who was having surgery that morning, and our servicemen.
Sec. Bill Poleri pointed out that there were four spelling errors in the Jan. 20th minutes. Carbo should be Corbo; Giavannelli should be Giovannelli; and Pasta di Pizza should be Pasta de Pizza, which was misspelled twice. The secretary questioned whether it was about time he was replaced. Patsy Perriello motioned to accept the corrected Jan. 20th minutes. John Murgo seconded it. Poleri thanked D’Arrigo for taking the minutes on Jan. 6. He received a big hand. Poleri also announced that he is working on a new directory and if anyone has any changes to let him know. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Jan. 20th meeting. Members attending luncheon were 23 and Vitello’s Luncheon Tab was $322. Income included 50/50, $25; Vinnie Corbo’s 50/50 winning donation, $25, and Dues, $61. Expense was Postage, $65.86. Account balance is $3413.04. Duke Sella motioned to accept. OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo announced that there are 15 reservations for the upcoming dinner/concert in the Sinatra Room at Casa di Pizza, which will be held on Feb. 19, a Monday night. The event includes a complete dinner and a performance by Tony Gallo and his Group. The price is $50 a person and wives, sweethearts and etc., are welcome. The treasurer stressed the fact that we are 25 persons short of the needed reservations and urged members to call him if they are coming. Brother Vito Giovannelli, owner of Casa de Pizza, said he couldn’t hold the band so he needs to know who is coming. A deadline of Feb. 12 was established.
Treas. di Milo also reported that there were a few stragglers who haven’t paid their dues yet.
NEW BUSINESS: The club is picking up 300 more of its logo pins at a cost of $1000, di Milo reported. He explained that the pins cost $3 each plus other charges and the club will sell them for $5 each. He announced Brother Ronnie La Barbera gave him the tip on the company, which will also make shirts with our club’s logo on them but they must be ordered.
HEALTH TALK: Brother Dr. Joe Turcillo gave a very informative talk on health. The lecture was followed by a question and answer period.
La Barbera donated his $14 of his $28 50/50 winnings back to the club.
