GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of February 19, 2005 Meeting

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and those in the services.

Frank Pacelli motioned to accept the Feb. 5th minutes. Vito Giovannelli seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case). A parody of the minutes was passed out. No one claimed authorship but Sec. Bill Poleri thought it was the work of a lawyer. Poleri said that he would gladly step down and let the literary genius assume the secretarial post.

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report. Incomes from Feb. 5th meeting were Luncheon, $260, and non-eaters, $24 for a total of $284. Luncheon expenses were $300 and gratuities, $24 for a loss of $40. Other incomes were 50/50, $26; Ricci D’Argenzio’s Christmas Party donation, $30, and Dues, $350. Other expenses were hospital gift for Mickey Grasso, $33 and Christmas Party, $1562.11, which included Toys, $562.11; Clown/Face Painter, $100; Grants to four families, $200, and Villa Sorrento for food, $700. Terry Moretti motioned to accept. Vinny Oliver seconded it. The motion carried. The treasurer reported that 30 members still owe their dues.

The treasurer reminded all that the $35 DUES ARE NOW DUE and the dues go from October to October, not the last month a member paid them. Make Your Check Payable to G.O.I.I.A.

Pres. Raso announced, after much coaxing by Sec. Poleri, that he wouldn’t be able to attend the next meeting because he will be honored by his employer, Sodexho Food Service, as the employee of the year.

OLD BUSINESS: Oliver said that the Handicapped Children’s Christmas Party was a participator event, which members looked forward to serving and reacting with the kids. He said now it’s like getting Thanks from Care after you made your donation. He suggested we appoint a committee to find a new place to hold the party. The treasurer said we were tentatively offered a place for next year’s party with free food. Ronnie LaBerbera said he was willing to pay for his own lunch if he could help out with the party. di Milo said that members were welcome to mingle with the kids without having to pay for their lunches. Pres. Raso said working the party was a labor of love and we should allow more members to participate. Richard Muccillo reminded members that it’s a little early to discuss the party now. We should be discussing this in October. di Milo reiterated that he’ll be checking into another place to hold the party.

Terry Moretti spoke about the club getting more involved and be serious, although the joking around is good stuff. Frank Pacelli said he wants to learn from us. “I never had a father,” he said.

NEW BUSINESS: Joe Trucillo suggested the club celebrates St. Joseph’s Day on March 19 with a party at his home at 1 p.m. in Malibu. As an Italian American club we should respect our heritage. He said that the food would be supplied by Villa Sorrento and we bring our wives and guests. di Milo motioned to hold the March 19th meeting at Dr. Trucillo’s house with wives, sweethearts and guests. Larry Mascari seconded it. The motioned carried. di Milo said he needs to know by March 5 the number of guests each member is bringing so he can order the food. The event will be a combined celebration and meeting.

Greg Holzer asked if we still buy lottery tickets as a group. The answer was no.

Vito Giovannelli donated his $23 50/50 winnings to the club.

Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Mar. 5th at the Villa Sorrento, followed by the Mar. 19th meeting at Dr. Turcillo’s home. Submitted by Sec. Bill Poleri
