GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of February 17, 2007 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order and Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo led the group in prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially for Chicky Russo, who was having surgery recently and is still in the hospital, and our servicemen.
Sec. Bill Poleri didn’t passed out the Jan. 20th minutes because he said that there were too many errors in his recording of Dr. Joesph Turcillo’s health lecture. He said that he would redo them and pass them out at the next meeting. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).
The meeting was held at Coley’s Caribbean restaurant, which used to be the Villa Sorrento Restaurant, because Vitello’s was unavailable that day. Poleri said that the next meeting, March 3rd would be back at Vitello’s.
The secretary reported that when he sent email to members to let them know that Vitello’s was unavailable many of the emails couldn’t be delivered. He urged members to let him know of any email changes because he is now working on this year’s directory.
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Feb. 3rd meeting. Members attending luncheon were 23 and Vitello’s Luncheon Tab was $322. Income included 50/50, $28; Ronnie La Barbera’s 50/50 winning donation, $14; Dues, $175, and Misc., $5. Account balance is $4385.04, part of which was $750 for the Casa de Pizza party. D’Arrigo motioned to accept. Steve Loyacano seconded it.
OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo announced that a portion of the $4000 is for the upcoming dinner/concert in the Sinatra Room at Casa de Pizza, which will be held Monday night, Feb. 19. He reported that there is room for several more reservations, so far, 28 members and their guests plus 10 regular customers of Casa de Pizza have signed up for the event. The event includes a complete dinner and a performance by Tony Gallo and his Group. The price is $50 a person and wives, sweethearts and etc., are welcome. Brother Vito Giovannelli is owner of Casa de Pizza.
Sec. Poleri reminded members that the March 17th meeting would be held at Dr. Turcillo’s house, where the club will also observe St. Joseph’s Day. Brother Turcillo’s home is at 3506 Malibu Country Drive, Malibu. John Murgo questioned what are we charging at the meeting for the luncheon, which is being catered. He suggested that we charge the same that we charged at Vitello’s, $14, and if we are over, the club keeps it, and if we are short, the club eats it.
NEW BUSINESS: Murgo recommended that if we are ever unable to have the meeting at Vitello’s that we should come here to Coley’s Restaurant, since they were so cordial and the food was different but good. The members readily agreed giving Audrey Coley at big hand.
Pres. Vinny Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Mar. 3rd at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Mar. 17th meeting at Dr. Turcillo’s home.
