GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of December 2, 2006 Meeting

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially Chicky Russo who is in the hospital, and our servicemen.

Rocco Telese motioned to accept the Nov. 18th minutes. Carmine Marinelli seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case). Later it was pointed out that the minutes had two errors. The date for the Christmas Party for the Handicapped Children was listed as Dec. 17th when it should have been Dec.16th and Vinnie Corbo’s named was misspelled throughout the report. Sec. Bill Poleri reminded everyone that the next meeting is Jan. 6, 2007.

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the Nov. 18th meeting. Members attending luncheon were 22; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $308; 50/50 income, $25; Donations to the Children’s Party – Lee Pappas, $26 and Vinny Raso, $50, and Dues, $175. The balance is $3762.62. Mike An’gileo motioned to accept. Ian Castellucci seconded it. The motion carried.

Treas. di Milo reminded all that the $35 dues are due now.

NEW BUSINESS: Sec. Poleri suggested that John Murgo be added to the Web Site Committee, which now consists of Lee Pappas and Vinnie Corbo. The reason, Poleri explained, is that a member has been hassling the committee for picayune things he wants on the site. Pres. Raso appointed Murgo to the committee. Murgo emphasized that a member must go to him if they want anything special on the web site.

OLD BUSINESS: Since there were so few members at the meeting, Sec. Poleri tabled further discussion of the club making donations of books, old cell phones, shampoos and other toiletries to our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Treas. di Milo reported that there would be 55 children with 30 parents at the Children’s Party. Ten volunteers would be needed to help Santa pass out the gifts. Greg Holzer will be Santa. Those interested are to see him. Sec. Poleri reminded all that the parking lot would be used for cars bringing the handicapped children and not volunteers. He said that the restaurant gave us permission to put traffic cones at the parking lot entrance, where a volunteer will be stationed.

ANNOUNCEMENT: John Antonucci announced that there is a series of books entitled “Heritage – Italian-American Style” by Leon J. Radomile. The books have 1776 questions and answers about Italians/Americans and their contributions to our world. The series is a bilingual edition. The series consists of five volumes with each book going for $19.95 plus S&H. If you buy four volumes, you get the fifth one free. For further information go to the web site –www.italianheritage.net or call 800-715-1492.

Pres. Vinny Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 6th at Vitello’s Restaurant followed by the Jan. 20th meeting.
