GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of August 6, 2005 Meeting

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially Frank Valentino and Mickey Grasso, and those in the services. Grasso was well enough to attend this meeting. It was good to see him back at the meeting.

Duke Sella motioned to accept the July 16th minutes. Rocky Vitalia seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial reports. Incomes from July16th meeting were Luncheon, $273 and non-eaters, $6. Luncheon expenses were $300, and gratuities, $22 for a loss of $13. Other incomes were 50/50, $45, including $20 donation from Al La Rosa’s 50/50, and, misc. donation of $40 from Mike Policare. Expenses were Postage, $59.27, and picnic reservation, $87. The balance is $2115.57. Holzer motioned to accept. Jimmy D’Arrigo seconded it. The motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS: Chairman Mike Policare of the upcoming luncheon for elderly shut-ins turned the chairmanship over to John Murgo because Policare will be out of town on family business. The luncheon is Saturday, Aug. 13, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Church Parish Center on the corner of Moorpark and Lankershim, North Hollywood.

Murgo said we have about 22 seniors coming and we need volunteers as drivers and escorts. He explained that volunteers would have to pay for their own luncheons. The club would pay for the guests. When asked if members could bring wives or sweethearts to be volunteers, Sec. Poleri said that that was all right, but the members would have to pay for their lunch.

Leo Matranga, who came up with the idea, repeated the purpose of the affair, which is to give lunch to persons who don’t get out. He stressed that it is a function for the whole club and all members should participate either as a driver, escort or both. John Cassarino, Matranga’s meeting guest, donated $10 toward the event.

Mike Vanoff Gileo reported that only three members have submitted photos of their grandfathers for the web site. He urged members to submit their grandfathers’ photos.

Pres. Raso won the 50/50 and donated his $23 winning to the club.

Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Aug 20th at Villa Sorrento followed by the Sept. 17th meeting. There will be no meeting on Sept. 3rd due to the holiday.
