GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of August 20, 2005 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and those in the services.
Holzer motioned to accept the Aug 6th minutes. Jimmy D’Arrigo seconded it. The motion carried. The club’s web sight is: http://leejpappas.com/goiia.htm (case sensitive, all lower case).
Sec. Bill Poleri read a thank you note from a senior shut-in, thanking the club for the senior shut-ins luncheon. The letter was addressed to D’Arrigo.
The secretary also reminded all that there would be no meeting on Sept. 3 due to the holiday.
Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial reports for the Aug. 6th meeting and the luncheon for the senior shut-ins on Aug. 13. Incomes from the meeting were Luncheon, $247and non-eaters, $6. Luncheon expenses were $300, and gratuities, $20 for a loss of $67. Other incomes were 50/50, $22; Raso’s 50/50 winning, $23, and, misc. donation of $10 for the seniors’ luncheon. Expense was Postage, $46. Income from the senior shut-ins luncheon was $340 (including donations from four members). Expenses for the luncheon were: Caterer, $550, and church, $50. The cost to the club was $260. The balance is $1782.57. John Murgo motioned to accept. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The motion carried.
When di Milo emphasized the drop in the club’s balance, Murgo made the point that it wasn’t due to the luncheon for the seniors but the low attendance at the recent meetings. The treasurer agreed with Murgo and pointed out that the attendance for today was 16 setting a new record.
OLD BUSINESS: Pres. Raso thanked the work the club members did to make the senior shut-ins luncheon a big success. He mentioned the fulfilling that the members got from hosting the event, especially the satisfaction it gave to the younger members.
He also spoke about finding something that the membership could participate in so when we recruit new members they can see what we do and what we are.
Joseph Turcillo asked how to submit his grandfather’s picture so it can get on the web site. Murgo offered to help him with it.
Leo Matranga won the 50/50 and donated his $12 to the club.
Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 17th at Villa Sorrento followed by the Oct. 1st meeting.
