Minutes of August 18, 2007 Meeting

 

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order and Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Jimmy D’Arrigo then led the group in the prayer. Pres. Raso called for a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.

 

Holzer motioned to accept the July 21st minutes. Carmine Marinelli seconded it. The motion passed. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).

 

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the July 21st meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 23; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $322; 50/50 income, $25; Rocco Telese donated his $25 50/50 winnings, and Man-of-the Year Dinner advance reservations, $210. Expenses were L’Italo Americano, $40; Joey Herrington, $60 (MOTY dinner refund), and MOTY Meal, $293.98. The balance is $2815.45. Vinny Oliver motioned to accept. Holzer seconded it. The motion carried.

 

Treas. di Milo gave a summary of the Shut-In Seniors luncheon held on Aug. 4. Expenses were caterer, $600, and donation to St. Charles Church, $50. Income was $238 collected from the 17 volunteer members in attendance each paying $14 for their lunch. The cost to the club was $412.

 

Pres. Raso thanked luncheon Cochairman D’Arrigo and his volunteers, especially Leo Matranga, Vinnie and Jackie Corbo for donating gifts, and his wife, Karen, who along with the president provided the entertainment.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Treas. di Milo reported that the man-of-the-year dinner reservations are progressing well. Attendance is very promising, he added.

 

The treasurer also announced that the annual picnic tentative date is Sept. 26 at Hanley Park. He emphasized tentatively,

 

NEW BUSINESS: Vice Pres. Vinnie Corbo said he plans to take a group picture at the next meeting to be used in a brochure which will be distributed at the Italian Festival scheduled for early September.

 

ANNOUNCMENT: John Murgo announced that past member Robert Gallo is doing a one-man show. It will be an evening with Al Capone, entitled “King of the City.” The show was written by Gallo and Juanin Clay and was directed by Dom Salinaro. The show opens Aug. 25 with performances each Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 7 p.m. through Sept. 22.

 

Also announced was a book by Paul Picerni entitled “Steps to Stardom.” The book cost $24.95 by ordering direct from the author with $5 postage and handling charges. For more information write to Paul Picerni, P.O. Box 88, Llano, CA 93544.

 

Mike Perrotta donated his 50/50 winnings back to the club.

 

Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be Oct.6th at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Oct. 20th meeting.
