GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA

Minutes of April 21, 2007 Meeting

Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order and Pres. Vinny Raso led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and in a prayer. Pres. Raso then called for a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, those that are ill and our servicemen.

Holzer motioned to accept the Apr. 7th minutes. Ronnie La Barbera seconded it. The club’s web site is www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case). Omitted from the minutes the fact that Michael An’gileo donated his $20 50/50 winnings from the April 7th meeting.

Treas. Tony di Milo read the financial report for the April 7th meeting. Members attending the luncheon were 24; Vitello’s Luncheon Tab, $336; 50/50 income, $20; Michael An’gileo’s 50/50 winning donation, $20; Small Pins, $19, and Dues, $35. The balance is $3155.21. Vito Giovannelli motioned to accept. Carmine Marinelli seconded it. The motion carried.

Sec. Bill Poleri reminded members that he is working on the directory and they should tell him of any changes in their bio information.

OLD BUSINESS: John Antonucci again announced that as a club’s fund raiser he would gladly hold a garage sale at his house selling stuff members donated with the proceeds going to the club. “We should do this properly. My house is in a good location to have a sale,” he said. When asked if he would store any items brought before the sale took place, he replied no. He said the stuff should be brought to his place on the day before the sale. La Barbera called for the discussion to be tabled to the next meeting since there were only a few members (15) in attendance. The item was tabled.

NEW BUSINESS: Treasurer di Milo announced that John Murgo and he are working on the Man-of-the-Year dinner.

Marinelli donated his $25 of his 50/50 winnings back to the club.

ANNOUNCEMENT: When the Prez was asked why he was sporting a mustache and goatee, Raso answered that he is playing a priest in a play, titled “Nonsense,” and he is the only male in the production. More details are forth coming.

Sec. Poleri displayed a clipping from The Aspen Times out of Aspen, Colorado, which shows a photo of Brother Mike Policare, who is one of G.O.I.I.A.’s founder, fishing by a peaceful looking stream. The clipping was sent to Brother Murgo and Mike wrote on it “John, Life in the fast lane in paradise, Mike.” The headline above the photo reads “On the river,” and the cut line reads “Mike Pelicare, recent transplant to Basalt from Los Angeles, tries his luck with a spinning rod on the Fryingpan River.” The cut line misspells Mike’s name. It’s Policare.

Pres. Raso adjourned the meeting. The next meeting will be May 5th at Vitello’s Restaurant at 11:30 a.m. followed by the May 19th meeting.
