GRANDSONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA
Minutes of April 15, 2006 Meeting
Sgt.-at-Arms Greg Holzer called the meeting to order. Pres. Vinny Raso led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. A moment of silence followed for our deceased brothers, those that are ill, especially Frank Valentino, Steve (Lord) Loyacano and Jimmy D'Arrigo's wife who is in the hospital and those in the services.
Pres. Raso received a hearty welcome after having missed several meetings when he was rehearsing a comedy by William Van Zant called "Lie, Cheat and Genuflect," in which Raso played one of the leads.
Sec. Poleri also welcomed back Mike Ardizone who couldn't stay for the meeting. Ardizone was away for 14 months serving his second Army tour of duty of the recent wars. This tour was spent in Afghanistan and Guantanamo, Cuba. He spent part of his first tour in Iraq.
Rocco Telese motioned to accept the March 18th minutes. Jimmy D'Arrigo seconded it. The motion carried. The club's web site is now: www.goiia.com (case sensitive, all lower case).
Treas. di Milo read the financial report for the April 1st meeting. Incomes from the Luncheon were $300 and non-eaters, $18 for a total of $318. Luncheon expenses were $309 and gratuity, $28 for a gain of $9. Other incomes were Dues, $70; 50/50, $32, and a donation from the 50/50 winner, $3. Other expenses were postage and printing, $94.46. The balance is $2441.88. Holzer motioned to accept. Carmine Marinelli seconded it. The motion carried.
Treas. di Milo reported that Vice Pres. Steve Loyacano is still in a Wales hospital after falling down a flight of stairs and breaking his collarbone and eight ribs. Leo Matranga said he spoke to Loyacano by phone. He said that not only was the call a long distance one but he had to dial a lot of numbers to reach him. Matranga reported that Loyacano will be in the hospital for 10 more days and then he will be going to Lisbon and some where else before coming home.
NEW BUSINESS: Len Indelicato suggested that we have bocce ball tourney among ourselves. He said that we could find a park to play on like the North Hollywood Park on Magnolia and Tujunga nearby. He said we could do this before a meeting, after a meeting or meet on a Saturday that we don't have a meeting. Frank Panto also spoke in favor of holding a tourney. Nick Collura said that there's a park on Riverside and Tujunga we might be able to use. Sec. Poleri proposed a committee be formed to check in to reserving park space, fee, how many guys will be interested in forming a league, etc. Pres. Raso appointed Indelicato and Frank Panto as the cochairmen of the two-man panel.
Holzer suggested that the club hold a bowling party. The reaction was a non-committal shrug.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
